IPL 2022: As we all know this year 10 teams will play in IPL instead of 8 teams. And Tata replace The Vivo as an official sponsor and IPL is known as TATA IPL from 2022.
In 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League will start from 26th March, and will be played at the four venues in Maharashtra. With the addition of two teams, the format of the league stage has been changed. 10 teams have been divided into two groups of 5 teams each and this division has been done based on IPL titles won and finals played in the IPL history.
Then, a team will play 2 matches against the other 4 teams in their group, and will play 2 matches against a team which is adjacent to them in group division, and will play only one match against the rest of the 4 teams in the other group.
For example, MI will play two matches each against the four teams in Group A – KKR, RR, DC, and LSG will play against CSK twice as they are adjacent to each other in the group division, and only 1 match each against SRH, RCB, PBKS, and GT.
Similarly, for example, RCB will have 2 matches each against CSK, SRH, PBKS, and GT, 2 matches against MI as well, and only 1 match each against KKR, RR, DC & LSG.
A similar format was adopted in the 2011 version of the IPL where 10 teams participated in an IPL season together for the first time.
